One of our courses just before everyone arrives for the day
Many designers and developers have seen the enormous potential of WordPress, and a lot have also found themselves being asked if they can create WordPress based blog designs. But it’s hard to know where to start with the myriad array of themes and plugins available. And understanding the structure and methods behind WordPress themes is also a tricky thing to learn alone.
Our course is a one-to-one course where you will find yourself spending the first day with David Coveney, director if Interconnect IT, who will take you through the WordPress ecosystem, answer your questions about how to use the system to maximum advantage, and guide you to the best WordPress resources, plugins and themes on the Internet.
On the second (optional) day, our technical director, James Whitehead, will spend the day with you going through the basics of building a WordPress theme and of building a WordPress plugin. By the end of day two you will have a firm grasp of the structure and context of the code you will be writing.
Pre-requisites
- Basic understanding of PHP, CSS, HTML and MySQL
- You should bring your own laptop with either XAMPP (for Windows), LAMP (for Linux) or MAMP (for Macs) installed. Check you can do this before booking your course as we will generally not cover this as part of the course. If you can’t install it, it’s possible that this isn’t the course for you.

Day 2
- Introduction
- Principles of a WordPress Theme in six parts
- Principles of a WordPress plugin
All attendees of the course will receive printed materials for later reference, a resources disk or pen drive, refreshments, lunch and a subscription to our newsletter.
The course fee is £480+VAT (£552 inclusive) per day and takes place at our office. If you wish to bring more than one learner please ask.
